No Control

Alright, last night I shared the lyrics to one of my songs. Tonight, I want to share a song by Bad Religion, called, "No Control." Punk rock was a huge part of my adolescence and I can't imagine if I would be anything near the same person I am today without it. 8th grade me knew all the words to the entire Bad Religion record. The energy behind the tracks and the conviction behind the vocals were what really drew me in. The lyrics are spot on, providing a narrative about human existence that supports the idea that consciousness is the reason for half of the the things we all believe in and how no matter how important you think you may be, you have no control over your own fate. Of course, One Direction now has a song called, "No Control" as well, and it makes we want to choke on my own puke. Here are the good lyrics, by Bad Religion.

Culture was the seed of proliferation, but it's gotten melded into an inharmonic hole,
Consciousness has plagued us and we cannot shake it--though we think we're in control.
Questions that besiege us in life are testament of our helplessness.

There's no vestige of a beginning, no prospect of an end, (Hutton, 1795)
When we all disintegrate it will all happen again.

Time is so rock solid in the minds of the hoards but they can't explain why it should slip away,
History and the future are the comforts of our curiosity, but here we are--rooted in the present day.
Questions that besiege us in life are testament of our helplessness.

There's no vestige of beginning, no prospect of an end, (Hutton, 1795)
When we all disintegrate it will all happen again.

If you came to conquer, you'll be king for a day,
But you too deteriorate and quickly fade away,
So believe these words you hear, when you think your path is clear...

We have no control.
We do not understand.
You have no control.
You are not in command.
No control.
