Goodnight

Just getting home from the second show of the week out here in Northern Virginia. Met a lot of cool people, as usual. Feeling good about the performances and I'm excited for the rest of the shows this week. I love performing this time of year; many of the people attending the shows are feeling free to get a little crazy and really put out some positive energy. Aside from the shows, I am making a conscious effort to putting more time into building up the blog part of my site. So earlier today, I thought I should share the lyrics to one of my songs, entitled Goodnight. I wrote it in the spring of 2014.

Been so long since ambition felt attractive,
Going day by day and feeling maladapted,
Unequipped to face this world and the truths that it holds,
Repress, repress, repress--'till we all fit the mold,

Goodnight--
Time to let the truth take flight.
Goodnight--
Before you turn in, let go of your life.

Brave, in a sense to think like I do,
Scared, when the time comes to express this view,
Don't want to be extracted, cast away to the lions,
At least then I know I'll have acted out my defiance,
Defiance of the mind, but not of my hands,
To put myself in harms way was never in my plans,
Sheltered and immune, no reaction without an action,
The more I say, the less I do, my words have no traction.

Goodnight--
Time to let the truth take flight.
Goodnight--
Before you turn in, let go of your life.

Suck in a circle, just like the rest of us,
Love, hate, greed, absence of trust,
If anyone can tear me down, it should be me,
I'll always know the truth of how I've come to be,
What I rely on, what I've done, my fantasies,
A culmination of facts that stare right back at me,
If we must repressed, to be accepted, to get through,
Remember who you're fooling, especially if it's you.

Goodnight--
Time to let the truth take flight.
Goodnight--
Before you turn in, let go of your life.
